Evacuation 2009 Executed Excellently - Tuesday, June 02, 2009

The Evacuation Project 2009 gave over 1100 children an understanding of what it was like to be a child in World War 2.   John Hooker's expertise, as well as that of Rosemary Geary,Liz Reid and Graham Siviyer from KESR, the work of the real evacuees, re-enactors, volunteers and the help given by countless colleagues in schools, made this a year to remember. Aiding the teaching of Literacy and History via ICT

Communications

Helping children write stories in a rich historical setting via podcasts, blogs, video conference sessions and aiding a a professional author to interact with the children via Flash Meeting, ( a type of video conference that is easier and cheaper for schools to use - schools can click HERE to find out more), were all part of a recent project.

Another project enabled primary school children working on the History, Geography and Natural History of their area to publish a professionally printed newspaper that was delivered to some 20,000 homes via the schools.

Curriculum

Curriculum work is developed to cover the needs of  individual schools, cluster groups, and client organisations.  In the academic year 2007-8, History, Literacy and ICT have been key areas.

In Higher Education Staff Development we have refined our Media Communications work, adding a component on Video Conferencing. Media work has also been expanded  to include Web 2 Applications on the Masters in Heritage Education and Interpretation taught at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Consultancy

Spoken and written communications, digital video, digital imaging, podcasts and blogs are all addressed in the consutancy's work. Print design work for companies, indviduals and schools is also important. Newspapers are designed, printing and distribution organised for clients.

The interviewing of Second World War Evacuees via digital video has also become important in order to enable children to understand "What it was like for children in the Second World War" (Click HERE for the National Curriculum Reference).
